Reiving and Bereaving is a flexibly-timed ballad event, with a focus on the ballads associated with the Scottish Border – and those from the other side of the Border Line.
As well as a fine complement of traditional ballad singing, all Reiving & Bereaving events examine the historic background to the events in the ballads, how men such as Walter Scott and James Hogg went about collecting the ballads and how the ballads themselves are an intrinsic part of Borders tradition.
Reiving and Bereaving’s format can be from 1 hour – 1hr 45 mins. It is suitable for all ages and does include some audience participation with the singing!
